Adimus

The adimus is the part of the brain that contains the Active Learning Memory and controls a person's ability to use mentus and mandamus, two special abilities that, with the proper training, can produce extraordinary results.

The adimus also controls the Adimus Immune System which gives Mendalians longer life spans than normal mortals as well as extremely high resilience to physical harm. The more a person uses their adimus, the stronger their AIM.

Adimus energy is finite. This means that there is a maximum amount of mentus or mandamus a person can learn. As a person learns mentus, more and more adimus energy is converted. This converted energy is only useful in mentus and thus cannot be used perform mandamus.  The more mentus a person learns, the more of their adimus is converted and the stronger their mentus powers become. At a certain point, enough adimus energy is converted to allow a person's mentus to achieve mind mage levels.

Mandamus affects the adimus in a different way. When a person learns a mandamus command, it reserves a section of their adimus. This reserved adimus energy is unique to the individual mandamus technique learned. This means that not only can the reserved energy not be used for mentus, it cannot be used to perform any other type of mandamus. Consequently, a person can only learn a finite number of mandamus techniques until all of their adimus is completely reserved.

Because of the finite nature of adimus energy, a person who wishes to become a mind mage cannot learn any mentus, and a person who is attempting to learn all standard mandamus in hopes to be made a guardian cannot learn any mandamus.

Standard Adimus Classifications

Non

A non is a person who chooses not to learn mentus or mandamus. Because of this, they do not exercise their Active Learning Memory and their Adimus Immune System is weakened. Because of this, a non's lifespan is significantly shorter than any other adimus classification. Non's tend to live around 200 years or less.  Because public education of mentus and mandamus is still not available in all parts of Mendala, nons are still very prevalent, making up about 10-12% of the world's population.

Mentant-Non

Approximately 60% of the world's population is mentant-non. This is the most common adimus classification in the world. A mentant non, is a person who learns mostly mentus and some basic mandamus commands. Rational for this is that most professions require mentus but knowledge of basic mandamus usually gives people a higher skill level. Most mentant nons only learn less than a dozen basic mamdamus commands to supliment their mentus skills.

In professions where adimus classification is important, mentant non's wear mentant-blue robes with mandant-puple belts or sashes.

Mentant

Making up approximately 20% of the world's populous, a mentant is a person who only learns mentus. Mentants are almost always in training to become mind mages. Because of the level of admius energy it requires to acheive mind mage status, it is impossible to learn any mandamus and still become a mind mage. Thus, people who want to obtain mind mage level, only learn and use mentus. Not every mentant has the skills and perseverance to become a mind mage and some eventually give up or become mentant nons.

In professions where adimus classification is important, mentants wear mentant-blue robes with white belts or sashes.

Mandant-Non

A mandant-non is usually a person who started on the path of a guardian by learning only mandamus but prematurely left mandamus studies for any number of reasons and learned some mentus in order to pursue another career path which required mentus. Mandant-nons know at least half of the standard mandamus command set and can use these skills in many of the jobs a regular mandant can pursue such as working under the Fantasma, military work, and jobs dealing with security or policing. In addition they can pursue several mentant related occupations as well.

Although anyone can purposefully become a mandant-non, this is hardly ever the case, and there is a certain amount of stigma attached to this classification because mandant-nons have failed to reach the level of guardian, usually after several decades of work. In professions where adimus classification is important, mandant-nons wear mandant-purple robes with mentant-blue belts or sashes.

Mandant

A mandant is a person who learns only mandamus. In almost all cases, this is because they are striving to become a guardian. Though anyone can become a mandant, less than 1% of the population has this classification. This is because mandamus study is extremely difficult and offers very few career options. In many cases, mandants are incapable of completing the mandamus training that is required to become a guardian. In addition, even if a person successfully completes standard mandamus studies, there is no guarantee they will be chosen to become a guardian as this is at the discretion of the Fantasma.

Mandants who have completed standard mandamus but are not yet or never will be guardians usually work for the Fantasma or have high level political, spiritual, or military positions. Mandants still working through standard mandamus studies have careers that involve working in spiritual houses or in security. Mandants are considered almost as strong as mind mages. Mandants always where mandant-purple robes with white belts or sashes.

Mind Mage

A mind mage is the most powerful standard mentus classification. A mind mage is distinguished by their ability to create something permenant from their mentus (such as a piece of furniture). In addition, mind mages can view the mentant realm and the physical realm simultaneously, they have keener mentant sense, and can harness energy in unique ways. A mentant becomes a mind mage when they can create mentus quartz, which they can then use to increase their mentus abilities.

Mind mages are far more powerful than every other noraml adimus classification except guardians. Because of this, mind mages usually have jobs in positions of much higher social, military, or political status. Mind mages always wear robes that mark their adimus rank. These are mentant-blue robes with silver belts or sashes.

Special Adimus Classifications

Crystal-Non

A crystal non is a special classification of non that can only be found in the [Crystal Sands Desert]. Because of the desert crystal, which is prevalent throughout the entire desert, anyone born or living in the desert for an extended period time is incapable of using any adimus related abilities, the desert crystal completely drains adimus energy. Unless they move from the desert, they will never have any adimus energy or Active Learning Memory and because of this, they also have no Adimus Immune System or any resilience to mentus or mandamus. Crystal Nons have extremely short life spans, usually 150 years or less. Despite these detriments, there are still hundreds of thousands of people who live in the Crystal Sands Desert all their lives, most of them by choice.

Fantasmal-Non

A Fantasmal-Non is a non who has been granted additional adimus energy and powers by the Fantasma. Because of this, they have increased strength and resilience. Though these nons never use their adimus energy for mentus or mandamus, they have the benefit of a much stronger Adimus Immune System and a longer life span, similar to that of a mind mage. The Fantasma has only been known to grant such power to members of the [Fantasmal Knights] an elite section of the [Fantasmal Forcess] that do not use mentus or mandamus because of deep rooted traditions.

Guardian

A guardian is a mandant who has been granted a higher level of adimus energy by the Fantasma. With this increase in adimus energy there is also a shift of how this energy works. A guardian's adimus energy becomes similar to a mentant's, which means not only do they have more adimus energy, but are able to use all of their adimus energy in all of their mandamus, instead of each mandamus technique permanently reserving a portion of their adimus. This, in effect, makes guardians extremely powerful. It would take at least ten mind mages to equal the power of one guardian.

Only the Fantasmal can turn a mandant into a guardian, and this is completely at his discretion. Though guardians are immensely powerful, they have one role, and that is to serve the Fantasma.  Guardians perform many duties for the Fantasma all across Mendala. They are respected by all and are considered extremely wise in both spiritual and practical matters. A guardian always wears a mandant-purple robe with a silver belt.

Fantasma

The Fantasma is the leader of Mendala. In addition the Fantasma is the most powerful person on the planet with the possible exception of the epouranal mages. The Fantasma is a guardian, however unlike normal guardians, they possess the knowledge, powers, and abilities of every Fantasma that has come before them. Thus each Fantasma is more powerful than the last.

When a Fantasma dies or retires, the epouranal mages come together and choose a new Fantasma from among the pool of guardians. The ceremony that transfers the Fantasmal power has never been witnessed by outsiders. Retired Fantasmas still maintain their original guardian powers but usually do not remain in service under the new Fantasma. The Fantasma is always referred to as "Fantasma" and always wears a mandant-purple robe with gold belt.

Epouranal Mage

Epouranal mages are the most powerful adimus rank in existance, with the possible of exception of the Fantasma (though this has not be explicitly tested). However, this is not a standard adimus rank, because no person can obtain the level of epouranal mage through practice and study. There are only ever tweleve epouranal mages and when one dies, thier extraordinary power is passed to another through a process that is considered a complete mystery.

Epournal mages have only one role; they are the highest prophets and spiritual teachers of Mendala. They spend a great deal of their time in meditation and council and are rarely seen in public unless they are teaching. All epournal mages have mentant-blue robes with gold belts when they are seen in public.

Rare Adimus Classifications

Anti-Mentant

An anti-mentant is a person with an adimus abnormality that prevents them from learning mentus. All of their adimus energy is predefined for mandamus use. In addition, because of this abnormality, anti-mentants are immune to mentant energy. This makes it almost impossible for mentus techniques to work on them. The exception to this is the physical results of mind mage level mentus. Also in most cases, anti-mentants can still be affected by quickening. However, a group of anti-mentants exponentially increases the mentus barrier. A group of anti-mentants can block quickening, mentus, and the mentant realm for everyone nearby; the larger the group the larger the area affected. This barrier will prevent mind mages from using their mentus and can even affect epouranals to a certain extent.

Anti-mentants are fairly common (about as common as identical twins).  Though they can lead normal lives, they tend to be ostracized because of their inability to use mentus. The largest group of anti-mentants in the world is in the city of [Kelogong]. There are several thousand anti-mentants in this small city which makes it completely invisible in the mentant realm.

Anti-Mandant

An anti-mandant is a person with an adimus abnormality that prevents them from learning mandamus. An anti-mandant's adimus energy can only be used for mentus. Unlike anti-mentants, anti-mandants are still affected by all forms of mandamus. Anti-mandants are about as common as identical twins. In addition, they can live almost completely normal lives as they do not have a stigma attached to them the way anti-mentants do.

Skillmaster

A skillmaster is an extremely rare adimus classification; there are usually only a few dozen skillmasters alive at any given time. A skillmaster has an adimus abnormality that gives them virtually no upper boundary to their adimus energy. Their Active Learning Memory is extremely active, and their Adimus Immune System gives them an even higher resilience and longer life span (almost as long as a Fantasma's).

Because skillmasters have no definitive limit to their adimus energy, they can easily pursue both branches of adimus studies in their entirety and effective become a mind mage and a guardian given the right circumstances.

In professions where adimus classification is important, a skillmaster can wear any color robe with a tan belt. In most cases however, they will wear whatever their standard adimus rank is, such as that of a mind mage or a guardian.

Melder

This is one of the rarest adimus classifications. Melders are so rare that it is not uncommon for several hundred years to pass between the death of one melder and the birth of another. Melders have an adimus abnormality that allows them to combine mentus and mandamus. Because the two skills are completely different, they normally cannot be combined. Mentus energy and mandamus energy are distinguishable as separate in the adimus.

However with melders this is not the case. The melder gene produces a special type of adimus energy signature that can be simultaneously used for both mentus and mandamus. This energy never becomes assigned to mentus or mandamus but stays in its nebulous state allowing it to be used and reused for either purpose. Because of this special melder energy, a trained melder can use mentus as if it is mandamus, speaking it out loud instead of projecting it mentally into the mentant realm, and they can use mandamus in the mentant realm.

Melders have much more adimus energy than normal, (comparable to guardians), however unlike skillmasters, it is not infinite. In addition because of the way their adimus works, a melder can not become a mind mage or a guardian. Melders are extremely powerful almost rivaling guardians. However a melder's Active Learning Memory tends to be more unstable and even though their higher adimus energy gives them an increased Adimus Immune System the instability of their ALM makes them extremely susceptible to mentus and mandamus if the person using it is in direct physical contact with them.

In professions where adimus classification is important, melders wear white robes with orange belts or sashes.

Anti-Non

An anti-non is the rarest adimus classification. This is someone who is born with no adimus energy, Active Learning Memory, or Adimus Immune System whatsoever. Unlike regular nons and crystal nons, anti-nons have no choice. They will never have the benefit of those with adimus energy. All cartoons are anti-non, however their cartoon abilities grant them the same immunities and life span as a mind mage or guardian, so the lack of an AIM is not detrimental. Other than this, anti-nons are extremely rare; there have only been three known occurrences of an anti-non in the TA era. They do not have the ability to use mentus or mandamus and have no resilience to the adimus arts. Anti-nons have very short life spans, always less than 150 years.
