Age
How long do Mendalians live?
The lifespan of a Mendalian is based partially on race but mostly on adimus power. The oldest Mendalian on record was [Marius Fantas], the first Fantasma, who lived to 773 years old.
Race and Age
Race does play a small part in how long you live. In general, elves tend to have the longest natural lifespans, followed by halflings, then humans, and finally dwarfs.
Adimus and Age
Adimus power is the most significant determining factor of a person's lifespan. In general, you can tell how long someone will live by their adimus classification
- Anti Non / Crystal Non: 75 - 125 years
- Non: 150 - 225 years
- Mentant / Mentant Non: 300 - 375 years
- Mandant / Mandant Non: 350 - 425 years
- Mind Mage: 400 - 525 years
- Guardian / Melder: 575 - 650 years
- Skillmaster / Fantasma / Epouranal Mage: 675 - 750 years
These are not hard numbers, but estimates based on cumulative census records taken by the Fantasmal Government. Race, gender, and other adimus factors contribute to how long a person can naturally live.
Fantasmal Privilege and Age
Another rare but known factor to contribute to a longer lifespan is Fantasmal Privilege. This is the ability of the Fantasma to grant additional adimus energy and powers to another person. Fantasmal Privilege can be used for specific purposes, such as granting the ability to create [Fantasmal Gold] or the Fantasma can simply increase a person's adimus energy and potential, as is done with a Fantasmal-Non.
The Fantasma can choose to give additional adimus to anyone at any time for any reason, as is the privilege of the Fantasma. In almost every case, the granting of adimus abilities by the Fantasma comes with an increase in life span. This can be anywhere from an extra few decades to a few hundred years depending on the amount of adimus and the person involved.
Age Odities
For the most part, adimus level can determine a relative expected lifespan, but this is not always the case. There are many occasions where people live well beyond the "normal" lifespan of their adimus level for any number of reasons. This seems to happen often with quickeners and people who constantly use mentus as part of their job and daily lives. Scientists believe that unusually long lifespans may have something to do with quickening, quartz, mentus, or some combination. Many times people of "mixed" blood (like half elf / half human) will have longer lives.
In most situations, people who live longer than their adimus life expectancy tend to age differently. Whereas a guardian may still look "young" at age 400, a mentant would look significantly older if he lived that long.
In general however, it is not unusual for anyone (except anti-nons and crystal-nons) to live up to around 600 years old. Only guardians, skillmasters, melders, fantasmas, and epouranal mages have ever been known to live to 700 and beyond.
