Leadership Role

Allen was one of the original members of the A&A Club. He lived in Greengale all his life and had been friends with both Jandor and Becky for many years. Though not as adventurous as Jandor, Allen thought the idea was great, and he was responsible for recruiting most of the members, as well as organizing almost all of the trips and ensuring that the logistics were always taken care of. He made an excellent secretary and organizer for the group, often anticipating and solving problems before they even happened.

When the group transitions to the Fantasmal Fighters, Allen is made third in the chain of command, but still maintained his role of group organizer. All of the members respect him and many turn to him for guidance or insight. Allen is often seen as the "heart" of the leadership triad. Where Jandor is the decisive, authoritative, bold leader, and Becky is the no-nonsense, quick thinking, tactical planner, Allen is the calm, collected, rational and empathetic mediator, often insuring that the welfare of the group as a whole is maintained, even in the most stressful of situations.

The Guardian

When Allen met Fantasma, he learned that he was the descendant of Amos Granton, one of the Five Warriors. He also discovered that he was an anti-mentant, just like Amos had been. Most importantly, Allen had inherited another genetic adimus abnormality unique to his bloodline that was similar to [adritus] in that it caused him intense pain to learn adimus related abilities. Unlike adritus, Allen's unnamed condition was earmarked by an extremely overactive active learning memory that also allowed him to learn mandamus much faster than normal and increased his adimus abilities all around. When this abnormality was first discovered in Amos, the Fantasma at that time found a way to counteract the detrimental affects by using a hat lined with zenith quartz, currently the rarest form of quartz in the world. This hat was passed down through the generations to Allen. Though he had no idea of its purpose, he wore it all the time because it reminded him of his father.

Discovering his unique legacy prompted Allen to work hard to learn mandamus and fulfill his potential. Even with his ability to master mandamus quickly, it would have taken him months to successfully master standard mandamus and still longer to earn the right to become a guardian under the traditional system. Much to his surprise, only seven days after being on Mendala, Fantasma granted him the rank and power of a guardian before he even mastered half the standard mandamus set. Though well within his prerogative, Fantasma never sited any real reason for doing this except that the Daughter of the Sun, Ashley Summerson, needed a guardian, and Allen, as her best friend seemed the perfect candidate. However it seems clear that Fantasma's motives were far deeper than this. Though Allen was unsure of how to use his newly gifted powers, he trained hard and soon was able to overcome even his dependency of zenith quartz to steady his adimus powers.

As a guardian, Allen is able to use mandamus commands that were invented by his ancestor Amos, including the complicated universus command which allows him to absorb the energy of multiple mandamus commands and redirect it to any target of his choosing.

Friends & Family

Allen is the son of Veda and Wayne Guardman. His father died when he was seven but he often has dreams where he still speaks to his father about his daily life. After traveling to Mendala, Allen discovers that his father really is speaking to him from beyond the grave.

Allen shares the same spiritual beliefs as his mother, Veda Guardman, and never falters in their shared assertion that God is guiding their quest and that it is the destiny of the Fantasmal Fighters to stop the Book of War. He has a faith that often bolsters the spirits of his comrades.

Allen's best friend is Ashley Summerson; who he's been close to for as long as he can remember. She often depends on his strength and confidence, especially during this daunting adventure. In addition, he is extremely close to Amber Maya, who sees him as an anchor and older brother figure. Both girls are extremely protective of their relationship with Allen which originally causes conflict but soon creates a bond between them  Though Allen is very aware of his stewardship role in both girls lives, he's often unaware of how his actions, even ones that seem mundane to him, can affect them.
