Danger, Meet Derrick
With the exception of Jandor, there is no member of the Action and Adventure Club that enjoys adventure more than Derrick. He actually thrives on danger and enjoys anything that is considered risky. He immediately took to the idea of the club and is always eager to sign up for anything new and exciting.
Derrick also enjoys a good fight. This seems completely uncharacteristic of him because he is, by nature a kind person, but he loves to wrestle, box, and do anything that involves a physical competition. Unlike Jandor, Derrick is not a fan of weapons. He prefers his own two fists.
Derrick can often be found in the company of his close comrade Bernie Steward. Both boys are competitive by nature and enjoy challenging one another.
The Black Knight
When Derrick was transported to Mendala by the quickening accident on Earth, he was sent 12 weeks into the past and arrived in a small cave in the Candovian mountain range. It was purely providence that he would meet the reclusive Ho Shaw Zen, a gold band of the Warrior Guild former champion fighter, and (unknown to Derrick), the current Alaman Epouranal Mage. Ho Shaw Zen was a master of the Zormon Fighting Style. A rare fighting style that harnessed pure adimus energy without the use of mentus or mandamus. He offered to teach this to Derrick.
Derrick trained under Master Zen for several weeks, pushing himself beyond his limits to get as strong as he could in as little time as possible. He had no idea that he had been sent to the past, or that his friends were still alive. He was convinced that Davron had been terrorizing Mendala unchallenged the entire time, despite assurances from Ho Shaw Zen that no such man had surfaced. When information about Davron finally reached Derrick, he could wait no longer. He abandoned his training and left the mountains to seek out Davron's army.
On his way to Fantasmal Mountain, where Davron was reported to be, Derrick received word that several towns were under attack east of the Candovian mountain range, so he detoured through the woods east of the mountains to investigate. He found the city of Weaver's Road, which had so far avoided attack, and was making plans to rest there for the night when he spotted a local merchant being harassed by a tall red-headed young man. Derrick intervened and soon found himself being challenged to a street-brawl by the boy calling himself Rick "Redstone". Never one to turn down a fight, Derrick met Redstone in the open-air market the next day to settle the score once and for all before leaving. It was after this fight, however, that he was unexpectedly reunited with [AllenGuardman]] and [Ashley Summeron]. Overjoyed at the news that his friends might be alive and that they would soon be taking on Davron, Derrick rejoined the group in the hopes that he would be able to put his new training to good use soon.
From Black Knight to Black Band
Mendala's economy was in a state of flux due to the [Lostram Bank] being closed while Davron occupied [Fantasmal Mountain]. With no ability to gain access to bank resources, Derrick and other members of the Fantasmal Fighters found an alternate means for raising the money they needed. The Warrior Guild allowed its members to fight each other in a safe environment. Each combatant put up an equal amount of money or items, and others were also allowed to place bets on the fight. This seemed to be the perfect way for the more talented fighters of the group to earn money.
In order to participate, Derrick needed to become a member. As was his nature, he joined the band league, a section of the guild devoted exclusively to hand-to-hand combat with no weapons except gloves or claws. Derrick easily passed the initiation fight, which ironically was once again with his old rival, Rick Redstone. After that, Derrick bested every band member of the guild that he fought, not only earning money, but notoriety at each guild he fought in.
